What to Bring to Nursery

Emily Highmore

When the time comes for your child’s first day at nursery, Ditcham Dragonflies prioritises supporting all parents and children through their transition.

A key question from parents is: What do we need to pack for a nursery day?

Each child has their own peg where parents can leave a bag. Ditcham Dragonflies is an inclusive nursery, providing everything children need throughout the day.

Items Provided by Ditcham Dragonflies:

Within our fees, we supply:

  • Nappies

  • Wipes

  • Water bottles

  • All snacks

  • All meals

  • Milk

  • Formula

  • Suncream

  • Nappy cream

Items to Pack:

Spare Clothes:

At Ditcham Dragonflies, we encourage children to explore all activities and outdoor environments, which can sometimes lead to messy fun! We recommend packing three changes of clothes, including:

  • Socks

  • Underwear

  • Trousers/shorts

  • Long-sleeved/short-sleeved tops

  • Jumpers

If your child needs changing during the day, we will inform you of any dirty clothes in their bag that need washing and if additional spares are required. If your child is toilet training, we may request extra clothing.

Seasonal Clothing:

As we promote an outdoor classroom environment, suitable seasonal clothing is essential!

  • For rainy days: Wellington boots and waterproofs (such as a puddle suit), which can stay at nursery.

  • For colder months: A weather-appropriate coat, warm hats, and gloves.

  • For warmer months: A sunhat that provides good coverage.

Transitional Object:

To support the settling-in process, we encourage children to bring any comfort object they use at home, such as:

  • A teddy

  • A dummy

  • A muslin

  • A parent's t-shirt

Some children may not have a specific comfort object, but we find that a familiar item from home can help ease the transition.

By ensuring your child has these essential items, we can work together to make their nursery experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible!
