Teaching and Curriculum
We believe that our curriculum is everything we say and everything we do and that our children are learning all the time they are with us. Every moment is an opportunity that should not be missed to provide a worthwhile experience to the children in our care.
Our Teaching
We are fully aware that children will arrive out our nursery with a myriad of experience. Our early years teachers form professional bonds with the children and parents to discover the experiences in their lives so far. It is then our role to expand on these interests to ensure that the passion for learning and discovery is brought to life in the early years.
Our practice is informed by a range of pedagogical approaches:
-
The outdoor classroom: The outdoor classroom will be aligned with the curriculum, for example, children can achieve mathematical skills here and indoors. The outdoor classroom is a live laboratory where children can engage in hands on learning. There well being is fostered and teamwork to overcome problems is actively encouraged.
-
Reggio: focuses on the environment as the third teacher by exploring interests not just through books, but songs, dance, drama and sculpture.
-
The works of Pestalozzi: looking at more open ended learning and children given the opportunity to engage with real objects and “be taught by nature”
